Kemény Dió Bár

We have implemented Tamás Boldizsár’s designs several times, and this was also the case with Kemény Dió Bár. The challenge in the work was to transform the existing business premises into a bar and adjust the finished metal furniture to the characteristics and unevenness of the room.

The counter, designed based on Tamás’s designs, was made exciting by the play of surface treated perforated sheets: two sheets of different colors placed behind each other were illuminated from behind, thus giving a special visual effect. The sheets were cut to size and folded in our workshop with our CNC sheet metal cutting and CNC edge bending machines. Then the appropriate elements were welded together using AWI and AFI technologies. The finished pieces were surface treated based on the RAL color code.

An important element of the counter is the brushed stainless steel footrest, which runs around the bottom of the counter in a “U” shape. Due to intensive use, these parts were not painted. For the same reason, it was important that the large-span sheet metal parts covering the counter could not be easily deformed by kneeling, so we ensured its stability with spacers turned in our workshop.

The design included several wall covering elements and room dividers, the primary function of which was to visually separate the bar and restaurant areas. The perforated insert plates were made for the closed-section cassette elements using the technology already described for the counter. In order to separate the two functions of the space, some elements were painted yellow and white, and others orange and black. Due to the characteristics of the space, the walls and ceiling could not be drilled in many places, so we solved the installation with machined adjustable threaded legs. We machined welded nuts for these legs and then welded them into the room dividers.
We also manufactured the steel tables placed in the space. The elements were welded together from a closed section, where, similarly to our previous works, the joints were polished so that they looked like one part after painting.
